「The Spectrum of Transparency」
Liu Xin
2022
Spectrum of Transparency is a hand-cranked
interactive installation that utilizes the diffraction
of light on transparent material to create a fluid
and ever-changing grayscale. Through rhythmic
hand movements, the installation captures a
sequence of orderly grayscale variations.
Within transparency lies a hidden wealth of infinite
spectra, defying our common understanding
of transparent objects. As viewers experience
the emergence of grayscale from nothingness,
their cognition and imagination are reignited,
prompting them to reflect on the limitations of
human vision.
Just as Hiroshi Sugimoto conveys in The Origin of
Art, science assigns names and definitions to the
multitude of phenomena in the world, dividing
them into clear-cut dichotomies of black and
white. However, art exists within the crevices of
things, where one can truly grasp the essence of
the world's existence.
